About the Field Goal % Stat
Field goal percentage measures shooting accuracy as a proportion of all field goal attempts. It is the most fundamental indicator of shot quality and offensive efficiency. Big men who score predominantly inside the paint — dunks, putbacks, short post moves — typically lead FG% because close-range attempts carry the highest make rate. Elite FG% numbers in the 60–70% range are typically posted by centres whose shot diet consists primarily of attempts within five feet of the basket.
High FG% informs which players are taking the highest-quality shots, correlating with reliable scoring efficiency. For prop betting, FG% leaders who also post high scoring averages — combining accuracy with volume — are among the safest points prop targets. FG% is also useful for identifying players whose offensive role is expanding (more high-percentage looks) or shrinking (more difficult pull-up attempts), which affects the reliability of their points prop lines.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who has the best field goal percentage in the NBA in 2025-26?
The current NBA field goal percentage leader for 2025-26 is shown at rank #1 in the leaderboard above. The full rankings are updated daily after every completed game. Click any player\'s name to view their Statz profile — game logs, prop hit rates and active streaks are all available.
What is a good field goal percentage in the NBA?
The NBA league average FG% is typically around 46–48%. A FG% above 50% is considered strong; above 55% is excellent; above 60% is elite — typically achieved by players who take a high proportion of shots within five feet of the basket. Three-point-heavy shooters often post lower FG% (44–47%) despite excellent efficiency per shot. True shooting percentage (TS%) provides a better comparison across different shot diets.
How does field goal percentage affect NBA prop betting?
High FG% players are taking the highest-quality shots from the most efficient positions. For points props, FG% leaders who also post high scoring averages represent a combination of volume and efficiency that produces consistent output. A player whose FG% is declining mid-season — visible in game log data on their Statz player page — may be struggling with shot selection, which is a sell signal on their points props even if their PPG average has not dropped yet.
What is the difference between FG%, eFG% and TS%?
FG% = Made field goals / Attempted field goals — does not weight three-pointers. eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) / FGA — adjusts for the extra value of three-pointers. TS% = Points / (2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)) — the most complete efficiency measure, adjusting for both three-pointers and free throws. For prop research, raw FG% is most useful for identifying high-percentage scorers who operate primarily near the basket.
