Question 1

Who leads the NBA in steals in 2025-26?

Accepted Answer

The current NBA steals per game leader for 2025-26 is shown at rank #1 in the leaderboard above. The full rankings are updated daily after every completed game. Click any player\'s name to view their Statz profile — game logs, prop hit rates and active streaks are all available.

Question 2

What factors drive high steals totals in the NBA?

Accepted Answer

Steals are driven by: defensive scheme (press and trapping defences generate more steal opportunities than drop coverages), player positioning (perimeter defenders with active hands and quick anticipation), opponent ball-handling quality (high-usage players concede more steals), and player role. Players in high-pressure defensive systems — particularly those run by coaches like Tom Thibodeau — tend to produce higher steals totals.

Question 3

How can steals leaders be used for NBA prop betting?

Accepted Answer

Steals props receive less market attention than points, rebounds or assists — meaning sportsbooks are slower to adjust lines when a player's defensive role changes. Use the steals leaderboard alongside active streak data on the Statz player streaks page to identify players on multi-game steals streaks where the line may not have reacted. Players in aggressive defensive schemes are the most consistent steals prop targets.

Question 4

Who holds the NBA single-season steals record?

Accepted Answer

Alvin Robertson holds the single-season steals record with 3.67 SPG in the 1985-86 season. Chris Paul is the all-time career steals leader. Recent steals title holders include De'Aaron Fox, Kawhi Leonard and Alex Caruso — all aggressive perimeter defenders with high defensive intensity who are strong prop targets in their respective steals markets.
